Programme Characteristics

Our programme is designed as a broad education. Students registering on our Industrial and Systems Engineering programme will have a common first year with other full-time students in the Engineering Faculty, who will be registered in Electronic and Information Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. They will major in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Year 2 onwards. In addition to these other engineering disciplines, they can choose to minor in areas as Computing, Logistics, Scientific Computing and English Studies. The BEng (Hons) programme is of 3 years duration.

You can undergo a one-year (prior to the final year) paid practical training with some selected companies related to your study area. Those who choose this can simultaneously take some final year subjects to possibly advance your graduation schedule or lighten your workload in the all-important final year.

There are three basic subject areas: information and enterprise systems, human factors, and integrated product and process design.

Most of our well-equipped research centres and laboratories are the first of their kind in Hong Kong, including our Microsoft Enterprise Systems Centre, Digital Factory, and Advanced Manufacturing Technology Research Centre.

Not only can the theories of Industrial and Systems Engineering be applied in product production and enterprise services and operations, but resource enhancement and improvement of logistics in traffic, medical, banks, insurance and various government departments as well.
