Nano-Engineered Mechanics: Why Nano?

Presenter: Professor David Hui (Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of New Orleans, USA)

Venue: EF619

Time: 4:30pm - 6:00pm

 All are welcome

Abstract:

Why nano engineering is a new field, what is nanotechnology? How the length scale play a critical role in hybrid materials. The talk focuses on the transition from metal to composite to nanomaterials. The emphasis is on nanomechanics and how nanomaterials can be put to useful engineering applications. The talk will include three reasons for using nano, and will include nano-engineering in damage mechanics and impact dynamics. The critical component of design is safety of materials usage.
