A Knowledge Audit and a Study of the KM Strategy for West Rail of KCRC (Jan ¡V June 2004)

The KM Group has undertaken a study of the KM strategy for the Operations Control Centre of the West Rail of KCRC. The core business of Operations Control Center (OCC) is to provide services on a central hub for Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) West Rail (located at the West Rail Building at Kam Tin) which include central monitoring and control of railway equipment and facilities. The staff working at the OCC need to be decisive, agile, and responsive so that a safe, reliable and high quality transportation service can be provided. Due to the enormous complexity of different scenarios, it is not possible for all operational staff at OCC to know everything about their jobs. The project aims to formulate a KM strategy for one of the Operations Units, Systems Operation Unit, at OCC. The project focused on a feasibility study for adopting KM through the conduct of a Knowledge Audit. The identification of requirements for the implementation of a knowledge portal as a part of the KM strategy was also explored.
