A Knowledge-based Approach for Strategic Planning and Management for Manufacturers in Hong Kong, 2003-2005 (P.I.: Dr. K.F. Chu).

The study aims to establish a knowledge-based strategic planning system (KBSPS) for the predictive analysis of the successful manufacturing strategies of companies and to relate them with the contextual factors. The system is aimed at providing manufacturers, mainly local and could be some foreign, with guidance and solutions for establishing the proper strategies for their enterprise in accordance to the organizational and societal context under which they operate. The strategies so established can be instrumental for manufacturers to win a competitive edge in the global arena. The final establishment of the KBSPS will involve the attainment of the following objectives:

  • To research the manufacturing strategies and the tactical measures for implementing them that are used by an enterprise to attain competitiveness successfully.
  • To develop a framework for categorizing the strategies used by the companies and to characterize the contextual factors under which they operate. Attempts will be made to establish their relationships.
  • To develop a prototype of a knowledge-based strategic planning system (KBSPS).
  • To verify the performance of the KBSPS through the
