Development of a Multi-perspective Knowledge-based System for Enterprise Resources Planning, 2004-2006 (P.I.: Dr. C.F. Cheung)

The aims and objectives of the project are:

  • To research on the industrial practices in enterprise resource planning, knowledge management, business environment simulation and e-learning;
  • To determine the attributes and performance measurement criteria for enterprise resource planning
  • Hence, to establish a prototype of a multi-perspective knowledge-based system (MPKBS) to achieve multi-perspective of an enterprise for knowledge acquisition, knowledge diffusion, and measuring performance for its use of ERP applications.
  • To verify the performance of the MPKBS through the trial implementation in a number of selected reference sites.

The multi-perspective knowledge-based system (MSKPS) proposed in the study will help to achieve multi-perspective of an enterprise in the acquisition and diffusion of knowledge and hence measurement of the performance of its ERP processes. This will also help to drive the continuous improvement of its business operations and proficiency of its staffs in using ERP system. Potential applications of the infrastructure can be found in a wide variety of industries such as manufacturing, financial, consultancy and service industries.
