Dr. Benny Cheung

Dr. Benny Cheung is currently an Associate Professor of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Harbin Institute of Technology Shenzhen Graduate School. Dr. Cheung is an active researcher with an emphasis on industry related and applied research. His research interest includes Methods and Tools for KM, Taxonomy, KM Audit, Knowledge-based Systems, Knowledge Portal, Collaborative Technologies and Artificial Intelligence in KM. In addition, he is in-charge of a Knowledge Solution Laboratory (KSL) in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Microsoft Enterprise Systems Centre. The KSL provides state-of-the-art facilities for supporting industrial-related and applied research in knowledge engineering and management.

He has actively engaged in a number of KM research and consultancy projects which include the design and implementation of knowledge-based systems for E-procurement and Customer Service Management as well as the application of web-based enterprise collaborative technologies for facilitating knowledge sharing and collaboration. In addition, he has involved in various KM audit projects in prestigious companies in Hong Kong such as Johnson Electric, Hong Kong Dragon Airlines Ltd., CLP Power, KCRC West Rail, etc. Currently, he is engaging in the development of an Intelligent Knowledge Work Support System for Angus Electronics Co. Ltd. based on multi-facet and dynamic taxonomy, the establishment of a knowledge case library for Baptist OI Kwan Social Service as well as a pilot study of building a Data Mining System for Customer Relationship Management in Hong Kong Post Office Air Mail Centre. His research results have been published in various international journals and presented in a number of international conferences. Moreover, he also speaks in a number of KM and IT events such as the 4th and 5th Asia Pacific Knowledge Management Conference in November, 2002 and 2003, respectively.

Currently, Benny is a programme co-leader for the HKCyberU MSc programme in KM which is the first of its kind in Asia Pacific. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate subjects in Knowledge Engineering and Management and supervises a number of research student projects in KM related areas. On the other hand, he is serving as a member in the Departmental Research Committee (DRC) and contributes to the coordination of the research activities in areas of Knowledge and Innovation Management. Dr. Cheung is a Certified Knowledge Manager of The Knowledge and Innovation Management Professional Society (KMPro).
