Ir Dr S.F. Luk obtained a HD in Production & Industrial Engineering from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (formally the Hong Kong Polytechnic) and then graduated from The University of Hong Kong in Industrial Engineering. She got her second degree in Manufacturing Systems Engineering in 1993 and her EngD degree in 1999 from the University of Warwick.

She worked in the industry for more than 5 years. In 1990, she joined the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as a lecturer teaching in the department of Industrial & Systems Engineering Department. She became a chartered engineer in 1991. Her main teaching and research interests are in the areas of industrial engineering, knowledge and engineering management, and manufacturing technology. Dr. Luk is a Certified Knowledge Manager of The Knowledge and Innovation Management Professional Society (KMPro).
